Hello everyone!
Neuro Diverse conditions include but are not limited to: Dyslexia, DCD/Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, AD(H)D and Autism/ASD.
I am neuro-diverse and to be honest I have great difficulty managing many aspects of day-to-day living. I need to use many tools and techniques in order to function adequately within society. So many things that neuro-typical people find easy and mundane, like doing laundry, shopping, cleaning and cooking for me are incredibly difficult. However, on the reverse side of the coin there are many things that neuro-typical people seem to find very hard or complex that to me are just a walk in the park.
I believe that if people like me had the tools and techniques to better manage the mundane stuff in life more people would celebrate when their children were given a diagnosis of one of the above conditions because they would realise how we are capable of achieving great things! They wouldn't feel sorry for us or think that the diagnostic labels are an excuse for low achievement or bad behaviour (as many do now). Instead they would rejoice in realising that their children have the potential to see the world differently and to experience a reality that allows them to excel in whatever field they have a passion for.
I am not a medical or educational professional so my blogs are not to be taken as 'fact', they are just my way of sharing tips on what tools, strategies and techniques have helped me to better 'fit in' to the world, I am sharing the techniques that have allowed me to follow my dreams and achieve my potential in life.
If these techniques help just one person to manage their difficulties better then my time has been well spent.
